Ponderings of our Spiritual Life Director 1-22-24

Today, I’m not going to ask you to read my words, I’m going to ask you to read this article in your UUWorld magazine:

If you don’t have internet access or prefer a hard copy, look in your December 2023 UUWorld magazine for it.

And again, here is the link to the UUA Article II website. Be sure to check out the bulleted links on the (left) sidebar:

I think one of the basic things we need to understand about this change is that it gives voice to those who have been historically silenced. A liberating love, from which we take action, allows room for those who need access to a shared power from those that have historically held it and not shared it (deliberately or inadvertently– we all need to check our power and be aware of when it takes up too much space and doesn’t make room for others). And you know what, we have a lot to learn from shedding our old ways and listening to new and different perspectives. That actually liberates us, too. Article II isn’t all about you or me– it’s about all of us. (Okay, so those were my words you just read…).

Here’s another link:

“We are now well into the first quarter of the 21st Century. Our Association has grown in its understanding of systemic oppressions, such as racism, ableism, and heteronormative beliefs. However, many people feel the language of Article II does not reflect these learnings. The Board believes we need an Article II which leads us into the future.” – https://www.uua.org/uuagovernance/committees/article-ii-study-commission/about-article-2

Hope to see you at the Town Hall meeting!
