Ponderings of our Spiritual Life Director 11-6-23

“Every minute of every hour of every day you are making the world, just as you are making yourself, and you might as well do it with generosity and kindness and style.”

Rebecca Solnit

“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say ‘thank you?'”

– William A. Ward

“Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone.”

– G.B. Stern

Generosity and Gratitude go hand in hand! That’s why this month, we will create a generosity tree (because fun, crafty stuff is not just for children! And we can do it with style…).

In the hallway this week will appear the “trunk” of a tree and some leaves for you to write thank you notes on to your fellow UUCL congregants. Let’s be thankful for one another’s generosity because, without it, we wouldn’t have such a dynamic, loving community.

I’ll begin:

I am so thankful to all the board members for a great meeting today (Sunday after service)! Everyone was so generous in offering their ideas, their listening skills, their smiles and encouragement, their time, and their commitment. All of this made for a feel-good working meeting with some plans in the works and joyful times to look forward to.

What act of generosity were you thankful for on Sunday?

Maybe you will notice someone’s generosity this week before coming to church– Marsha publishes the newsletter, Crystal is eliminating wasps nests, Ken and Dorothy will no doubt be up to something at UUCL, Ken W. will hang the newsletter, several volunteers will help out with the Red Tent potluck… what will you notice?

And what is the something bigger than us that we are creating? (Hmmmm, maybe this tree needs a sun and sky above it to write down these ideas?)
