Ponderings of our Spiritual Life Director 10-14-24

Many of us are getting our power turned back on (mine came on this morning, Alleluia!). We’ve been working hard to clean up our yards. Maybe we’ve found gas for our cars. Slowly, “normal” is starting to return. But, we don’t ever go back. We are always changed. And we can shape that change! We can decide how to move forward and we can shape it with love and care.

But for now, just rest. Here’s a poetic offering for you:

The Peace of Wild Things

By Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Take good care of yourselves!
