If you were a flower, what would you be?
I would be a moonflower
Opening up only for the moonlight
White petals shimmering,
dancing in the gentle breeze to the rhythms of the night chorus
Chirps and croaks and wondering hoots
I would be a moonflower
Who would grow and spread so tall
Lemony aroma filling the night air
Calling to the sphinx moth
Feed on me, we help each other live
But bat might silently swoop in
Admiring my beauty as she flies by
Snapping the night-creeping insects
Into her jaws
In this web of life, we have complicated ways of supporting one another
So I would be a moonflower
Doing my part to sustain beauty
In the dark hours
When mystery is most alive
And the dance of life so hauntingly joyful
