Ponderings of our Spiritual Life Director

Hello from Germany!

I have been visiting my sister in Munich this past week. It’s been a fantastic trip! Although I haven’t been great about posting my #UULent to Facebook or Instagram (but I plan to!). I have been reflecting on each day’s word while I am here. Have you been remembering to reflect? I look forward to seeing the inspiration that you all bring. Here’s my offering so far.

Day 2 (March 3): Soil. Leaving the warm Florida soil. Leaving US soil. Headed to unknown, and cold, soil.

Day 4 (March 5): Vulnerability. Walking along unknown soil with two people that I feel closest to in this world, my sister and my daughter. We are searching for a flea market but we have no idea where we are and we wonder if we can trust Google maps. Being lost feels vulnerable. Being together provides safety and encouragement. We found the flea market. It was an amazing adventure! You have to work through that vulnerability in order to have a great adventure, to grow, and to keep oneself from complacency and boredom. It’s even better with loved ones.

Day 7 (March 8): Grief. This is a picture from the Dachau concentration camp. We were there yesterday. The grief was heavy.

Day 8 (March 9, today): Alone. I sit alone in the lobby and work. But in my mind, I’m not alone at all because I am writing to all of you and looking forward to being together (on warm soil!) again.
