I’ve been thinking a lot this week about the message that Professor Howard Kerner delivered to us last Sunday. When he mentioned opening ourselves up to others as a way to expand our minds and accept the bigness of life, a way to increase our knowledge and understanding of existence, I instantly bridged this to our November worship theme of “Abundance”. Prof. Kerner was speaking to the theme of “Reverence” this past Sunday- reverence for one another. And when we have reverence for one another, and we are able to join together in community, as Terry Tempest Williams proclaims in the quote above, we find abundance.

Abundance of what? This is an interesting question to ponder as we work together to write a mission statement for ourselves that will flow out of our values of Love, Connection, and Transformation. It might help us to discern what our tangible end goals, rooted in our values and mission, should be. So, I’m asking you to think about what sort of abundance our community can gather as we seek to revere one another and open ourselves up to all the possibilities life has to offer.
