Creative minds, look here! (that’s all of you, by the way : )
I have a habit of subscribing to all kinds of newsletters: “unbiased” news sources, social justice organizations, science updates, including ornithology and anthropology, women’s health, vintage business tips, religion and spirituality, church leadership and growth, and arts and creativity, just to name a few. It means my inboxes (both personal and professional) are jam packed! Can you relate? Some of you (most of you?) may be more organized than I am, but I think as UUs, we have curious, inquisitive minds that lead us to a wide variety of interests. I’d love to know how you navigate all of your interests and make time for deep engagement!
Anyway, I did actually make a little bit more time to engage in a newsletter called “The Dark Mountain Project.” It’s something I’ve been subscribed to for a few years. I honestly don’t remember how I came across it but it was probably doing research for a sermon. I often read their emails but don’t engage any further by clicking on links and such, despite the fact that the material sounds super interesting. I worry that it will be so cool that it will divert my attention away from whatever I am supposed to be doing and so I “save it for later,” and then don’t get to it.
But today, I got to it! I had to, for two reasons: 1. They just released a new book and stated that it “celebrates the work and practice of artists in a collapsing yet still beautiful world.” A-ha! It offers ways to practice gratitude even as we’re falling apart (our anchor quote for the month). And 2. In this book, one of the common threads that the artists used was containers, more specifically, jars. And I thought about gratitude jars. I knew I had to check it out! And perhaps you might want to, as well. I found it to be worth the time and a way to creatively expand my thinking (and nudges me to figure out a way to set more time aside to do such things). Here’s the link to the video in which the artists present their work:
Enjoy and have a great week! Hope to see you Wednesday evening at Creativity Matters.
