MEET THE MOMENT
Meet the Moment. That was the theme of this year’s General Assembly. If you attended our worship service this week, then you heard a little bit about our (Heather, Crystal, and Helen) experiences at GA this past June in Baltimore, MD. We gathered an abundance of wisdom and inspiration and ways to live out our values together. We will continue to share throughout the year.
But right now, we truly do need to meet the moment–with action. You are all well aware of what is going on in our country. Democracy is being threatened from all sides. I often hear from you feelings of helplessness–like, this thing is just too big, and getting bigger. How do we stop it?
Answer: There’s power in community. Not just numbers, but communities in which we have relationships. Communities to which we belong.
One of this year’s Action of Immediate Witness that was affirmed by delegates at the UUA’s General Assembly addresses authoritarianism. Here is the link to that AIW, which explains why and what we can do about it. Perhaps we are already doing some of those things which we are being called to do (Interfaith Coalition, Indivisible Polk, ITAV).

Here is the AIW that addresses immigration and has action items:
And here is the AIW regarding freedom for LGBTIQ individuals around the globe:

It is up to all of YOU to decide what action you want to take, to gather your fellow UUCL members, create a team, and build resistance. We are a small, but mighty, congregation. There is power in our connections. We are a force for Transformation towards bringing more Justice and more Love into this world. As a bumper sticker our RE kids once created (for a UUCL fundraiser some years ago) stated: [peace sign here] JUST DO IT!
