Ponderings of our Spiritual Life Director 4-6-22

#UULent Day 36 (April 6, 2022): invigorate

I look forward to this #uulent word a day spiritual practice every year. But this year, I’m really slacking. I almost gave up. Then, John Hughes started to make #uulent posts on Facebook and I felt this practice becoming invigorated in my life. Thank you, John!

Something I’ve noticed over the years of “doing church” at UUCL is that many of us have a lot of ideas for wonderful things we want us to do. But they don’t get off the ground unless we have someone (or many someones) to cocreate with– others that help to invigorate our idea! Being a lone wolf and doing things by oneself when in a community doesn’t work. We support one another, giving each other strength and energy.

I love this excerpt from a poem I found in the Soul Matters small group ministry resources:

Your great mistake is to act the drama

as if you were alone…

To feel abandoned is to deny

the intimacy of your surroundings…

Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease into

the conversation. The kettle is singing

even as it pours you a drink…

Here’s my photo for invigorate. I planted this amaryllis bulb over a year ago and it’s finally blooming. As I contemplated “invigorate” today, I wondered what finally gave it the strength to bloom (rain water and minerals from the soil, I’m guessing!). I sure do hope it multiplies, grows new bulblets, and finds itself in a community that strengthens and energizes amaryllis life in my yard!
