Ponderings of our Spiritual Life Director 12-8-21

Twas the day before the semester ends

And all through my house

Are piles of books on theology…

And there’s no time for rhyming as I wonder,

who the heck is going to do the dishes and the laundry?

I’m in the middle of writing my “constructive theology” paper. It’s one of those tasks that is deeply challenging, but yet joyful at the same time. Writing this paper allows me to take a very close look at what I believe, why I believe it, what the moral implications of my beliefs are, and how it affects the rest of the world. I’m finding that it’s way more complicated to examine and work out than in a 10 page paper. But nevertheless, I will produce a first draft of something. My professor calls it a “first draft” because he knows that it is something that will be revised over and over again throughout our lives. Indeed, “change is divine” — that’s an underlying premise of what I believe.

As always, I am deeply grateful for the folks who are able to contribute to my seminary fund and make this ministerial formation process happen for me. This has been a great semester, perhaps the best one yet! Both of my classes, Multi-Sensory Worship and Constructive Theology, have been engaging, fun, and meaningful. I hope that you have all observed the results of my learnings in worship and throughout my work with the church. Thank you! It is a great joy to serve this UUCL community!
