We are already seeing growth from the fertile ground of our community.
On Sunday we began thinking outside the “patriarchal tool box” as a way to journey towards the diverse, multicultural Beloved Community that our 8th Principle speaks about. The very beginnings of a decision making process that would let us experience spiritual wholeness (also aspired to in our 8th Principle) were emerging, like small green stems from the ground of our being together.
Water, sweaters and blankets (both literally and figuratively, I imagine) were presented by one group as a way to provide a more comfortable space in which we can be vulnerable, speak from the heart, and open up to being loved by one another. In an email I heard about an Equity Toolbox that encourages listening respectfully, speaking thoughtfully with love, encouragement and support of each other via the tools of wire cutters, pry bar, filter, glue, square & level, and the scales of justice. I want to know more about the ideas around this!
I asked for you all to write down and flesh out your ideas so that we can begin to come together more often to create a toolbox that helps us be together in shared ministry and shared power, in which we center voices that are often left unheard. Therefore, I’m asking you to email them to me or drop a letter in my mailbox at UUCL. What an exciting opportunity to create together!
I’d also like to mention that at Tuesday morning’s Coffee Klatch we began to discuss an idea that allows us to honor the lives of those that have been taken senselessly and violently. Our congregation exists to sustain life and help us all thrive. We are here to spread the message of love and inherent worth and dignity of all. This new idea that developed Tuesday morning for a UUCL project is currently being cultivated and watered and will be shared very soon, so keep an eye out for more information and how you can participate!
I feel life brimming with joyous potential and I cannot wait to see what blooms! Together we love, connect, and transform!
